words of encouragement

It isn't fate that puts on weight--it's food, food, food.

A boiled dinner will make you thinner, but run and hide from one that's fried.

You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.

Dieting is not a piece of cake.

Inside some of us is a thin person struggling to get out, but they can usually be sedated with a few pieces of chocolate cake.

Progress Not Perfection

No matter who you are, no matter what you do, you absolutely, positively do have the power to change.

Focus on how you will become successful today and forget about the setbacks from yesterday.

Claire and Michelle were maintainers, which I know Michelle was happy with. However after Claires boozy weekend its a shock she didnt put on. This week Claire better be a loss or ill be dragging you round with me a lunchtime

Another 1lb loss for the F@t Controller and making my total 9lb so far

Ok, now some useful info for you

Diet myths are everywhere and if you're trying to lose weight reading contradictory information can be frustrating. Here we try to bust some of the most common diet myths and hopefully help you to acheive your weight loss goal. Good luck!

Carbohydrates are fattening = FALSE

Carbohydrate foods such as rice, pasta and bread have been labelled as fattening and people think if we avoid carbohydrates this will result in weight loss. Carbohydrate is important for fuel for our bodies and it is difficult to sustain a low carbohydrate diet. Rice, pasta and bread are low in fat and are actually low in calories and high in fibre thus very filling. It is when we overeat these foods and diverge from out recommended portions that they can be no good for us. Carbohydrates can be included in a healthy meal plan, just limit the fat that can be added to the carbohydrate, including butters, margarine, oils and cream.

Low fat milk has less calcium than full cream milk =FALSE

Low fat milk and full fat milk have the same amount of calcium, so both are important for bone health. However, they do differ in fat content. If you are trying to shed some pounds then so ideally opt for a lower fat milk.

Snacking makes you fat = FALSE

Overeating between meals (known as grazing or picking) or choosing wrong snack choices can lead to weight gain, but snacking healthily does not make you overweight. One healthy snack between meals can be beneficial as it can help reduce the risk of overeating at the next meal and keep your metabolism burning. Some ideal snacks may include:Piece of fruitLow fat yoghurtVegetable sticks with hummusSmall handful of unsalted nutsLow fat crackers & low fat cottage cheeseGlass of low fat milk

Honey is a healthy substitute for sugar = FALSE

Honey and sugar have similar energy/kilojoule content and provide little nutrition. You are better off to sweeten your food with fruit instead. For example, top your cereal with fruit or add a slice of lemon to your herbal tea.

Red meat is high in fat so avoid this to lose weight =FALSE

Red meat is important for iron and iron helps to transport oxygen around the body. If we don’t have enough iron we can be left feeling tired, which in turn makes eating correctly and exercising a lot more difficult. Choosing lean or trimmed red meat for meals three to four times a week in correct portions is appropriate to meet nutritional requirements, as well as continue on your weight loss journey.

Treat foods should be eaten in the morning so it's burnt off, rather than at night = FALSE

Our metabolism burns throughout the day and night, even when we are sleeping. It is about the portion and how often we eat these treat foods and not the time of day that will have an effect on our weight.

Howdy!!!!

Sorry folks for not posting last week, I had been struggling with man flu all weekend and into the early week. But Im back now.

So, last week we only had 1 loser an it doesnt take a genius to workout that the others were either maintainers or gainers. Yep, gainers!!! Me included.Pam was the biggest loser with a steady consistant loss every week and so a mahoosive well done :D Pam has even refrained from the office chocolate dive in, we need to all stay strong.

Now onto this weeks weigh in, looks like the rest of us have had a word with ourselves and are starting to take this healthy choice of living seriously. Or everything in moderation, as long as you dont refer to it as a diet.

We have a new member in our club, Jo has decided to join after she had a sneaky weigh in and decided she wanted to shed a few pound before Christmas. So welcome on board

Now, stat time

Firstly well done to Pam who has lost over half a stone. I can feel "slimmer of the month" award heading its way to you!!!

This week weve had losers and maintainers and what do we say "a maintains better than a gain"

Joint Biggest loser of the week goes to Pam and yours truely however i just lost what Id put on from the week before and so am not a deserved loser!

Well Friday is nearly here ladies and so lets get some extra exercise in an heres to a good loss

13 weigh ins till Christmas

Yes Ladies, 13 more weigh ins till Christmas. That means if you aim to lose just 1lb per week you have lost nearly a stone!! Sounds easy, and a lb is nothing

So lets all get cracking, its heads down and time to focus, think before you eat and make those healthy choices. Its so easy to dip into a box of celebrations that are just there shouting us. If you would normally eat one after the other till theres nowt left, then you clearly have issues. Only joking, but try and have 1 or 2, just to curb your craving

Other tips, drink plenty of fluid, no, thats not wine or vodka, but water. It keeps you metabolism ticking along nicely, also being thirsty gives that same "rumble in your tum" feeling, so instead of diving for the biscuits try a glass of nice refreshing water!!

Now, i know Claire is back on it and is even pounding the streets, well done. I know we will see an improvement from you

The key is not to weigh in everyday, leave it to once a week and stick to it

Right, stats for this week
3 maintainers and 1 loser

And so the biggest loser of the week goes to The Mighty Claire Todd!!!! Good to have you back on board

Keep up the good work Ladies and bring on the next weigh in

looking back

I have been looking at past posts and wanted to share this one

I have amended names etc... but says it all reall
ENJOY

but reality is ladies its only 3 months before the Xmas party dress season kicks in. Yep just 12 weeks until we hit December - so there's no room for slacking off, me included.

I'm afraid you've got little ole me to inspire you into keeping on track this week. Yes, Chief cereal eating, soup slugging, running freak is here to guide you. And admittedly yes I too have slipped off track a little recently (beer, pizza and choc ice cream living at home with the folks) and have gained some unwanted poundage around the belly area which simply has to go, so I'm with you all in the mission for the ultimate figure.

PMA - Positive Mental Attitude, this is my mantra and its always worked for me so I will certainly be going back to it. Strength of mind is all you need to achieve anything. When the sweets are being handed out - think NO, when the birthday cakes are in the canteen - think NO. By keeping strong in your mind you can refrain from picking up those calorie laden baddies and you can tuck into your healthy tea knowing that youve not indulged during the day.

Now it would be wrong of me not to mention, excercise so can I remind you all that just 30 mins of exercise each day can be beneficial to increase your metabolism and it helps melt the fat. Even those of us that really dont like it, just 30 mins of brisk walking, stair climbing, treat the dog to a walk in the park or dare I say join us for a run on a Tues/Thurs eve.

Action plan for this week - no eating after 7pm in the evening, add some exercise, keep drinking plenty of water, why not try replacing one of your daily meals with a bowl of cereal - you may laugh but it does work and satisfies the carb fix we all crave but with less fat than crisps, bread, pizza!Happy Grazing.......thats me over and out Michelle 'The Body' MacFairclough :-P haha

Taking Stock

Hi ladies Well firstly let me apologise for not posting last week. No excuses, just didnt get round to it!

On a more positive note, everyone was weighed in for 10.30.

I will start putting meal suggestions up in the coming weeks, just to give people ideas and would welcome and easy, quick meal suggestions.

I am championing the sweet potato and the moment. Cannot get enough of it. Skins on and chopped into wedges, put in the over with a drizzle of oil and honey, 180 for 40ish mins, give them a shake half way through mmmmm Dlish! Crispy skins and sweet mushy potato inside. Its a must try and with less but good carbs whats there not to like about them.

Reet, down to figures:
We have 2 losers and 1 maintainer.
Biggest Loser is yours truely losing 3lb this week, 8lb so far
Michelle - 2lb loss this week, 4lb so far
Pam - 2lb this week, 4lb so far Claire - Well,
Claire is a work in progress and I am expecting big losses next week and the coming weeks. Or "you" will pay to weigh

Now go forth and lose weight F@tfighters

Week 2.

Hello there everyone. Been a disjointed week for our first week back. Claires been on holiday all week and Pams been off the last two days and so will need to weigh in Monday.

For the others its been business as usual, Machine Michelle whos got far too much will power. I wish I had a teaspoon of it!! With swimming and running Michelle is burning off the fat nicely.

Yours truely has been running but needs to be stricter with the calorie intake.

I know Pam has been ill with an attack of "fur balls" and that would of been enough for me to cave in, but from what Ive witnessed, even she is trying. Its the small steps that mount up to big achievements.

The scales will tell!!!!!

This week we have a maintainer and to losers. Mich is the biggest loser this week with a 2lb loss - well done
Vanessa with a 1lb loss and Claire is our maintainer. Fear not as a maintain is better than a gain!!! We will await Pams weigh in on Monday.

Happy bank holiday

Well, what a bad week to start f@t fighters back up. Not only was it glorious weather but it was an extra long one. I know Im not holding out for a loss on Friday. Id be exstatic with a maintain!!

What I need to do now is have a word with myself and get back on "it" and pronto. So Im just going to write this weekend off as a win for wine and food. So 1-0.

Positivity and a 100 mile run should get me back on track.

Hope youve all had a cracking weekend Friday will be here before we know it.........  GULP!!!!

WE ARE BACK IN BUSINESS

HI All

Its been a long bloody while, but with X-Factor and Strictly looming
It can only mean one thing..... Thats right, Christmas is just around the corner. So that means party "frock"season

So without further ado we better get this party started. Weigh in will be Friday am break/dinner with minimal interuptions to work as possible. Unless its me doing the interuptions. Do we want to pay to weigh? £1 a week? You can pay upfront whatever. Or we dont have to pay

I will start my spreadsheet!! Excited already.

So lets all offer support and encouragement to each other. And let the fun commence
